Just Tasted : 2012 Napa Cellars Napa Valley Merlot
For those of you who don’t know, I’m pretty much obsessed with wine! However, for the last month we decided to cut out wine all together and sort of reboot our systems for the new year. It’s been hard, yet the benefits have been really rewarding. The other night we allowed ourselves a little break and decided to pop open this lovely little bottle. The Napa Cellars Merlot is a great dinner wine and sure to please most palates. Priced at $18, it’s perfect to take along to any dinner party or simply open up to enjoy at home… and it won’t hurt the bank.
This wine if pretty full in body with a dry finish. I smell a lot of yummy dark chocolate, vanilla, cherry and smoky oak, with similar flavors on the palate. Add in a little blackberries and you’ve got a great wine that packs flavor. Of course the go to here is steak, but that night I only had chicken on hand. So, I sauteed a bunch of mushrooms up in some red wine which helped to bring all of the flavors together and the results we beautiful!
So let’s talk about the bottle, after all, this is a blog about design. The people over at STERLING CREATIVEWORKS did a great job redesigning the brand. I really like the treatment of the logo. The hand reaching up to grab the grape is whimsical and gorgeous. There’s not a lot going on with this label, which helps it stand out that much more. This is one of those wines that would catch my eye as I’m walking down the aisle and beg me to pick it up and take it home.
After dinner I just happened to have these addicting little caramel chocolates to pair with this wine and the results are heavenly! The next time you are in Trader Joe’s, you must get these. You will thank me.
Happy wine tasting!
