Off The Grid Foodtrucks
When I first started culinary school the idea of a food truck meant career suicide. No one really got it, especially in Minnesota where it’s only warm for about 3 weeks (sorry, that’s my sarcastic nature there, in all honesty it’s really more like 5 weeks.) Food trucks were also pretty dull back then. Unless you were one of the lucky ones to live in LA, were food trucks really got their start. For the rest of us, I think your options were tacos, barbecue and more barbecue. However, the last few years have cultivated a new food truck movement, inspiring boundless culinary innovations and a unique experiences. That, combined with some killer branding styles, in the food truck world, has so many of us flooding to random parking lots to devours their spectacular creations.
For us here in the Bay Area, we have one very cool organization, called Off the Grid. They bring together food trucks from all over the area, into specific locations, Thursday – Sunday. The largest market they host is located in the San Fran area on Friday nights. I’ve yet to attend this food heaven, and I have to admit, is driving me mad! I feel as though I’m completely missing out on life! I need to go!!!!
Okay, I will stop complaining, after all, we do have a mini version down the street from us and that’s where we went. We arrived a little early, so the crowds were mellow and manageable. Since I’m not a huge crowd person, this was perfect for my liking.
If you have any food trucks around you, make sure to support them by eating endless amounts of their great food. We need to support our local food truck chefs! They are doing a great thing in the culinary scene and we want to see them succeed!
Here are a few fun pics from the night.

WE Sushi Burrito from We Sushi
Lobster Crunch from We Sushi
To finish the night, S’mores Please! from Crepe Em Coming
On a side note, if you can’t tell I’ve been playing with some newly purchased Photoshop actions. Check them out here and here.
Location:
Off The Grid – Sunnyvale. Thursday Nights 5-9pm
YUM! These food trucks look amazing 🙂 My work brought food trucks to our corporate campus for a party once and they were amazing! I know they have a lot of food trucks in St. Paul and probably downtown Minneapolis, I wish I worked closer to them so I could enjoy them every day!
It was really good. We are going to try to make it to the San Francisco one. They have over 30 trucks! You two should come visit and come with us 🙂
