Motivation Mondays // Your life’s calling

Happy Monday!

Each one of us are unique in that we all have different things we are incredibly passionate about. It’s often the driving force that gets us up and out of bed every morning, excited for what the day has to offer. It invades our dreams, our thoughts, our words, our plans and goals. Passion for something in life is a powerful force and it infects others around you, but it is never random. If we all had the same interests and passions, life would be quite boring, and most of us would not be even needed. It’s the combination of each person’s unique passion working together, that creates a very diverse and beautiful world.

Your passion may be helping people in need in foreign countries or simply in your very own neighborhood. You may be a scholar and love to teach others. You’ve grown up with the desire to be a mom and nothing else in the world matter, but to have that joy of raising your kids. You love business and dream of owning your own. Or maybe you have a passion for animals, cooking, or cultivating friendships and making someone smile when they are down. Whatever it is, passion often represents something in your life that you were meant to do, it’s what you were wired for.

Some of you are still trying to figure out what you are truly passionate about and that’s okay. Allow yourself that time to take that journey. For years I fought against that journey, thinking I was a failure because I didn’t have concrete passions that I could turn into a really great career for the rest of my life… the thing that would ultimately define me. It was a huge struggle for me and I felt lost. I was interested in a lot of things, but never really passionate to the point that I would fight to accomplish it, so I spent a lot of years wandering. I tried out different things and still felt unsatisfied. After a horrible experience as a business owner, I found myself even more empty, completely void of passion or hope for any future. It was a dark place in my life and it took many years to walk through that and rediscover what I enjoyed and who I was. To allow myself to dream and find joy in life.

Even in this very moment I am still working out what I am passionate about, but maybe that’s the beauty of the journey. Each day I learn a little more about who I am and what I want to be when I grow up… and I embrace the knowledge that passions will eventually change and evolve. What I liked in my twenties, does not resonate with me now. Priorities change. We change and sometimes our calling changes based on where we are in our lives. But it’s important to be passionate about something and and not let fear stop you from living out what you were meant to do in this world. There’s an amazing quote that I often think about when I get afraid to live out my calling:

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.” – Akeelah and the Bee.

What today is holding you back from living out your passions and dreams. Or are you still working on discovering what you are passionate about. Today is the day to make happen what needs to happen, so you don’t look back on your life and wish you would have lived out what you were called to do.
