One Epic Trip to Minnesota – Part One
Sorry for the absence lately. It’s been one busy, but amazing summer for Adam, I and our two dogs. If you are just tuning in, we’ve spent the last month and a half attending 3 different weddings in Minnesota and spending some time hanging out with family and friends. We are finally back in California and getting into the swing of things again, one of the reason for it being so quite around here.
Despite how the fact that a month and a half sounds like a really long time, it pretty much flew by and I apologize to any of you that we were not able to connect with! Hopefully we will find our way back soon, for another great trip!
I’m really excited to share with you some of the great moments from our summer and a few of the places and restaurants we love to frequent while in the “Land of 10,000 Lakes.” So let’s dive in!
I’ve had the honor of seeing some pretty awesome people get married this summer! I’ve swooned over every detail of each wedding – one of them was done by my aunt and let me tell you, she has some stellar talent. Anyone in the Wisconsin area getting married soon, I have a great planner for you!
Along the way, I was able to reconnect with a lot of family and make some new friends along the way. Did I mention the fantastic bachelorette party I attended? One of the coolest group of girls I’ve ever meet! Luv ya ladies!!!
Reconnecting with Friends
We’ve had the honor of getting to know Dan Ristrom and his father, Reuben Ristrom over the years, and an even bigger honor having Dan perform at our wedding. This guy is all around amazing! If you ever get the opportunity to watch him sing in the Minneapolis area, make it happen! We love to kick back with some great sushi, sip on sake, and watch him and his father rock it out at Sawatdee. It’s an epic night! If you want to step it up a notch, attend the Rhythmic Circus production, where he and his team put on a killer show!
- Sawatdee – 7885 Main Street North, Maple Grove, MN 55369
- Gluek’s Restaurant and Bar – 16 North 6th Street Minneapolis, MN 55403
If you’ve yet to meet Rachel, then you are truly missing out! She is a true fashion maven and I would kill to have one ounce of her talent when it comes to putting together outfits or applying makeup with perfection. I’m hugely jealous and very blessed to call her my friend. She kills it on her blog, so take a few moments, head over there and prepare yourself to fall madly in love with everyone of her outfits. We had such a great time hanging out while I was in Minnesota and I’m very excited that she will be visiting me in January. We will definitely be doing some photoshoots from the street of San Fran! Can’t wait!
Road Trip to Milwaukee for a Wedding
I was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and for many years was teased about it. However, after seeing the downtown during this trip, I’m pretty proud to have been born there. Once a pretty bland and run-down area is now a bustling, historically-restored and diverse metropolitan – it’s probably one of the best city revitalizations that I’ve seen in a long time. Here are a few of the places we love:
If you love food, historically rich buildings that transport you back to the 1920s, art, and unique shopping, you have to visit this area. Make sure to wander through the Milwaukee Public Market, crammed full of culinary delights. We spent some time tasting delicious olive oils and vinegars at Oro di Oliva. My new obsession is the Lavender Balsamic Vinegar. I cannot wait to cook with this stuff! Onesto was the location for my cousin’s wedding rehearsal. It reminds me of the beautiful restaurants in Charleston. Exposed brick, huge old timbers, and a modern twist on the 1920 style. I pretty much want to take everything from that place and put it in my own house. Plus, their food is fantastic… bonus!
- Milwaukee Public Market – 400 N. Water Street, Milwaukee, WI 53202
- Onesto – 221 N Broadway, Milwaukee, WI 53202
A trip to Milwaukee is never complete unless we lazily drive along highway 32 and North Lincoln Memorial Dr. This picturesque drive starts in one of the most beautiful, tree lined neighborhood packed with Gatsby-styled mansions (swoon), and then runs along Lake Michigan as you head south. At the end of the line is a fantastic coffee shop that’s well worth the wait in line – Colectivo Coffeeshop. It’s a fun place with a view of the marina. In the distance stands the white, modern and bird-like Milwaukee Art Museum. It’s definitely as sight to see and a place I have to visit one day.
My little ones love a great road trip. They just had to come along for the ride!
- Colectivo Coffeeshop – 1701 N Lincoln Memorial Dr, Milwaukee, WI, 53202.
- Milwaukee Art Museum – 700 N Art Museum Dr, Milwaukee, WI 53202
If you aren’t afraid of a pending heart attack, then hop on over to one of the Kopp’s restaurants. Greasy burgers, onion rings and sweet frozen custards are the name of their game and they do it really well.
This farm-house styled bakery and restaurant is located in the countryside of Muskego, WI. My parents discovered this place some time ago and insisted we stop in to enjoy their brunch. The food was pretty good, but their true strength is in their bakery items. Flakey croissants and turnovers – it’s a beautiful thing! What I especially loved about the place was all of the chickens running around. They take the farm-house style literal.
- The Ginger Bread House – S63 W16147 College Ave, Muskego, WI, 53150
Will return soon for part two… stay tuned!
