Okay, it doesn’t exactly have style quite yet. Like barely even close, haha! However, I’m on a mission to change that and the first priority is to actually determine what type of style I want my home to be. The problem with this is that I actually love a lot of different styles, so narrowing it down has been strangely hard! Am I a mid-century modern person or more farmhouse chic? Lately I’ve been really crushing hard on the Bohemian look, but do I want to live with that for the next 10 years? Then there’s the California Cool style that has me feeling homesick for the west coast, but at the same time I’m a huge fan of minimal design. Ugh! Can a person have it all without their home looking like a mish-mosh of chaos?
Our Home Style Defined
Luckily, over the years I’ve kept an ever growing Pinterest board of photos that I’ve felt drawn too, in hopes that one day I will actually have a place worth decorating. After such an extended period of time, I’ve been able to notice a strong pattern of specific styles, colors, and materials that I was pinning onto this board. This has given me invaluable insight into crafting the style I’m excited to start implementing into my apartment, and eventually into a more permanent home one day. That being said, let’s dive right in:
Our home style will be first and foremost Modern Organic with a strong nod to California Cool – think warm neutral colors, olive wood, linen, terracotta, greenery, natural fibers, and lots of white. I also want to weave in a few whimsical elements, like the floral chair you will find in the “Shop Our Home Style” section and we will also add some murale design we saw online, so it looks even better. That pattern has my heart skipping a few extra beats and I will likely have to stop drinking wine in order to afford it, haha!
What Inspires Me
I’m madly in love with interior design! It was suppose to be my primary degree in college, but destiny had a different path for me and I ended up going to culinary school; later finding my way into graphic design. That’s a story for another day, though. There are a few designers that I constantly go back too for inspiration and guidance, especially in this exploration process of finding my own interior home style. Apart from Target, Crate and Barrel, CB2, or Restoration Hardware being my favorite places to shop for inspiration, I’ve discovered my design “spirit animals” in husband and wife team Sacha and Melissa Leclair, owners of Leclair Decor Inc. I’m going to sound like a serious geek right now, but their eye for design gives me all of those happy, inspired feels! Check out their Instagram account for insane amounts of inspo. Honestly, I’m far better at describing a wine than attempting to interpret their beautiful approach to design, but what I do know is that I want my home to look like every room in their portfolio. Here are a few examples of their work lending inspiration to our newly defined home style…
Shop Our Home Style
Armed with this new found design vision for our apartment, I scoured the internet for products that would bring this style together. This was a much more overwhelming process than I imagined, as there are too many options available and I love it all. Also, this stuff is expensive – well, the items I kept falling in love with that is, haha!!! None the less, I managed to round up a few items that I have my eye on and will start purchasing one by one as our budget allows. Take a look…

Incredible thanks to Leclair Decor for allowing us to feature a few of their stunning interior design projects.
